Iter Vitis among the partners of this New Path to Sustainable Travel!
On October 9th, at the prestigious TTG Travel Experience, the Sustainable Food and Wine Tourist Charter (CarTES) was officially presented to the public by Professor Roberta Garibaldi, marking a significant milestone for sustainable tourism. This initiative is poised to create lasting impact, and even more exciting is the news that it will be implemented in selected pilot territories within the Iter Vitis network. This offers a tremendous opportunity for our regions to lead the way in promoting sustainable tourism, while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of food and wine and safeguarding the environment.
The Italian Association of Gastronomic Tourism with the leadership of Roberta Garibaldi, the National Wine Cities Association, the National Olive Oil Cities Association, the Federation of Wine, Oil, and Flavors Routes, the Iter Vitis Federation, Terranostra-Coldiretti, Unpli – the Union of Italian Pro Loco, and the National Consultation of Food Districts have come together to launch CarTES. This collaboration signals a strong commitment to fostering responsible food and wine tourism across Italy.
The Iter Vitis network, renowned for its cultural contributions to wine tourism, is the ideal context for implementing CarTES in pilot regions. These territories will act as trailblazers in integrating sustainable practices into tourism, demonstrating how local food, wine, and traditions can be honored while protecting vital resources.
What is CarTES?
CarTES is more than just a guide—it’s a comprehensive tool designed to help travelers enjoy food and wine tourism in a way that respects the environment, local cultures, and communities. It provides clear, actionable advice and promotes sustainable behaviors that enhance the traveler’s experience, guiding them through their journey from start to finish.
Why is it important?
As the world faces growing concerns over the depletion of natural resources, CarTES puts a spotlight on the need for sustainability. It draws attention to global best practices and encourages responsible tourism, helping shape the future of food and wine travel in a way that benefits everyone involved.
Who is it for?
The success of CarTES relies on the collective efforts of trade associations, local organizations, businesses, tourism operators, and travelers alike. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change, benefiting local communities, stimulating Italy’s agri-food and wine industries, and offering travelers unforgettable, sustainable experiences.
With the support of the Iter Vitis network, the pilot regions will serve as exemplary models of how sustainability can be woven into the fabric of food and wine tourism, further solidifying Italy’s leadership in cultural and culinary tourism.
