This morning, the official presentation of the city’s accession — through the city promotion agency “Reus Promoció” — to the Council of Europe’s European Cultural Route Iter Vitis – the Ways of the Vineyard took place at the Reus Enological Station. It is one more step in the external projection strategy recently launched by Reus, aimed at positioning the city internationally.
The event was attended by Natalia Turcanu, representing Iter Vitis, and Francesco Roletti, one of Turin’s vermouth producers, who attended as a representative of the Association of Historic Cafés of Turin and Piedmont, which has also joined the European network as one of the main bodies promoting the history of vermouth in the city of Turin. These accessions to Iter Vitis kick off the new section dedicated to vermouth, led by the three entities, which is intended to serve as a platform for the European Vermouth Route.
The Councillor for City Projection, Noemí Llauradó, accompanied by Turcanu and Roletti, explained the importance of being able to develop the vermouth section within the framework of Iter Vitis, given the long track record of the European route, recognised by the Council of Europe in 2009 and with more than 25 participating countries, and the great work it does in disseminating and promoting the cultural heritage and wine tradition so deeply rooted in European countries through products related to the vine. This solid foundation means that the network can start conducting specific actions immediately and can grow with its own members, in the hope of attracting even more new members to Iter Vitis who are drawn to the new line of work in the field of vermouth.
The councillor explains that “our city, hand in hand with such well-established and well-positioned bodies as Iter Vitis, and with collaborations such as the one begun in Turin with the Association of Historic Cafés of Turin and Piedmont, is carrying out actions for its external projection and thus fulfilling one of its purposes: to become an internationally recognised quality destination”.
