In the framework of their shared commitment to preserving and enhancing the cultural heritage of Europe, Iter Vitis and Destination Napoleon, two certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, are joining forces to celebrate and promote the historic connection between Napoleon and the world of wine.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event \u201cLe Rotte Mediterranee di Napoleone\u201d, taking place from May 3rd to 5th, 2025 in Portoferraio, on Elba Island, represents a significant step forward in this collaboration. Hosted in collaboration with the Municipality of Portoferraio, Fondazione Isola d\u2019Elba, and UIVIGI, and under the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the initiative aims to weave together the historical, enological, and cultural narratives that bind Napoleon\u2019s legacy to the Mediterranean lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a rich program of activities \u2014 including thematic conferences, urban trekking, film screenings, and a reenactment dinner \u201cAt the Table with the Emperor\u201d \u2014 participants will have the opportunity to explore how Napoleon\u2019s exile on Elba left a lasting mark not only on the island\u2019s political and military history but also on its viticulture and gastronomic traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iter Vitis, as the Cultural Route dedicated to the protection and promotion of the European wine heritage, has been researching the historical relevance of wine during Napoleon\u2019s time. In this context, the Emperor\u2019s initiatives to regulate and privilege local wine production, as well as his influence on viticultural practices, are part of a broader narrative about wine as a fundamental element of European identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration with Destination Napoleon strengthens the mission to foster sustainable tourism models based on cultural authenticity, rural heritage, and historical memory. It also highlights the importance of linking intangible cultural elements \u2014 like traditional winemaking \u2014 with tangible heritage sites, creating new opportunities for storytelling and destination development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The May event in Portoferraio will not only celebrate the historical significance of Napoleon\u2019s Mediterranean routes but also mark a new chapter of cooperation between two Cultural Routes committed to valorizing Europe\u2019s rich and diverse heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
